This photograph was taken by John Vachon at, Sisseton, South Dakota in 1939. This is a sign in front of a beer parlor that says "No beer sold to Indians." This photo was taken outside during the day time. The first thing that I notice when looking at this photograph is the sign in the corner of its window. This is a picture of a business, in what seems to be in fine condition. The picture is of the front window. I find the tone of the photograph to be negative due to the discriminating sign in the window that doesn't allow Indians to buy beer. Two questions I would ask the photographer is if white or colored people were allowed in the beer parlor too or both, and why they discriminate against Indians?

The photographer that took this photo is, Marion Walcott. This was taken in South Carolina, 1939. This picture was taken during that day, and it is light out. It seems be in a rural area because of the wild life surrounding the sign. What catches my eye is the little hut to the right of the sign and then i noticed the sign. This is a picture of a sign that advertises cabins for colored people. Surrounding the sign is the road and woods behind it. This picture also has a negative tone because of the discriminating sign which is the main focus of the photo. I would like to ask the photographer, what the hut next to the sign is used for and if this sign is on the side of a high way or a road?

This photograph was taken by Arthur Siegel at Baltimore, Maryland in 1943. This sign was placed right above a water fountain. This picture I believe was taken outside and during the day. The thing that stands out most in the photograph is the word water written down the side of the pole and directly next to that it says white. This picture was taken in a public place. In the backround is a bunch of windows, the condition of the area seen here looks worn down and old. The tone in this photograph is grim and depressing. I say this because of the coloring in this picture it seems sad and lonely, since it is darker and there are no people in the picture. Yet again there is a discriminating sign, so it feels unwelcoming to those who are not white.
